With Medical Cannabis currently legal in the State of New Mexico, recreational marijuana approved for legal sales in less than a year and the House approving legalization at a national level, employers are dealing with employees testing positive more often for THC. Many factors shape employment policies regarding employees’ use of marijuana--including employers’ knowledge and perspective about cannabis. This program will help human resources professionals make valid, consistent decisions concerning cannabis use in the workplace.

About our Speakers:
Liz Heaphy, an attorney, is a shareholder with the Albuquerque firm of RMH Lawyers, PA. Her legal practice focuses on the areas of employment law and commercial litigation. In the field of employment law, Liz counsels’ clients on a wide range of matters, including compliance with Title VII, the ADA, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the FMLA and the New Mexico Human Rights Act. She also assists employers with creating policies and handbooks; negotiating employment-related agreements; and evaluating hiring and termination decisions. Liz moved to Albuquerque in 2000, after spending her childhood in Holland, Michigan; receiving her BA from the University of Michigan; and obtaining her law degree from Columbia University. In her spare time, Liz enjoys crossword puzzles, creative writing and walking the dog.
Dan Kingston serves as the Director of HR Consulting and Recruiting for PNM Resources where he oversees employee relations, along with talent acquisition activities. Dan has more than 20 years of broad human resources experience across multiple industries and has held a number of HR leadership roles. Prior to joining PNM Resources, Dan served as the Director of HR for Eclipse Aerospace where he oversaw all aspects of the HR organization. Dan graduated with a Bachelors of Liberal Arts and Sciences from Eastern New Mexico University, majoring in communications and received the Outstanding Student Award of Excellence by the Department of Communicative Arts and Sciences. He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and has held SHRM and HRCI certifications. Dan lives in Albuquerque with his wife and two boys, sits on the Board of Directors for Explora Science Center & Children’s Museum and currently volunteers as a youth soccer coach for Albuquerque United Football Club, coaching a team of 14- and 15-year-old boys.
Maxine Chavez has been the owner of ABQ Drug Testing Inc. since 2009.

Maxine is a native Albuquerquean who loves hiking and biking her way around this beautiful state. The proud mom of 26-year-old daughter Devin and 21-year-old Curtis.
Rachael Speegle, Chief Executive Officer, is a registered nurse responsible for excellence in product quality and patient care at The Verdes Foundation, a fully vertically-integrated cultivator, processor, and distributor of medical cannabis headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rachael is also a co-founder of the organization.
At Verdes, Rachael has successfully guided the organization's growth into new products and markets and has developed an innovative approach to evidence-based nursing in medical cannabis. Under her leadership, Verdes has received numerous awards, including awards for corporate responsibility, a family-friendly workplace, and innovation in cannabis delivery. She currently serves as Vice President of the New Mexico Cannabis Chamber of Commerce, is a member of The Conscious Leaders Group, and works as a consultant to cannabis licensees across the country. Rachael is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She is currently pursuing an MBA at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
