Training Summary:

The Wage and Hour Division enforces federal labor laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act.  The training will include an overview of the changes to the New Overtime Rule.

The Learning Objectives Include:

Attendees will learn more about the laws the Wage and Hour Division enforces.

Attendees with be familiar with the changes to the New Overtime Rule, commonly known as 541.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions regarding the FLSA.


Patricia Chavez serves as the Community Outreach Resource and Planning Specialist (CORPS) for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD).  The WHD is responsible for administering and enforcing some of the nation’s most comprehensive federal labor laws, including the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, child labor and special employment, family and medical leave, migrant workers, lie detector tests, worker protections in certain temporary worker programs, and the prevailing wages for government service and construction contracts.

The primary responsibilities of the CORPS position include developing community relationships and support for WHD outreach initiatives, developing strategic enforcement initiatives, and compliance assistance and training. 

Patricia has served as a Public Affairs Specialist and Strategic Communications Specialist for the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice.  In addition, she has eight years of experience as a Paralegal in both the Criminal and Civil areas of law.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts & Sciences from the University of New Mexico where she double-majored in Criminology and Spanish.  She earned her Public Affairs Certification from the Department of Defense Information School at Ft. Meade, Maryland.
