Many employers offer a 401(k) retirement as a company benefit and vehicle to promote retirement savings for employees. Upon sponsoring a 401(k) retirement plan, the employer has taken on a significant responsibility which often times falls on the shoulders of the Human Resource Department, the payroll function and outside service providers such as the TPA (third party administrator) and plan auditor.
