Responding to Discrimination Charges
We will discuss what a New Mexico discrimination charge is (and what it is not). As discrimination charges against employers often are sent to human resources for handling, we will examine options for dealing with charges, we will cover how to respond effectively to a charge, and we will examine how to position the employer advantageously for the lawsuit that might follow.
About the Speaker:
Mr. Viets is a partner/shareholder in the Albuquerque office of Rodey, Dickason, Sloan, Akin & Robb, P.A. Since coming to Rodey in 2001, his practice has focused on representing private- and public-sector employers in federal and state court and before the EEOC and the New Mexico Human Rights Bureau. Mr. Viets’ practice also includes defending prison operators against inmate lawsuits. In addition to defending cases and charges, Mr. Viets advises clients on litigation avoidance, reviews employer policies and handbooks, and presents seminars for other lawyers and for clients on discrimination and wage/hour laws. Before coming to Rodey, Mr. Viets was a law clerk to the Honorable James A. Parker. At the time, Judge Parker was the Chief District Judge for the United States District of New Mexico. Mr. Viets is certified by the New Mexico board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in Employment and Labor Law.
